Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios to produce Kiran Rao’s directorial ‘Laapataa Ladies’

Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s production company, Aamir Khan Productions, will join hands with Jio Studios to bankroll Kiran Rao’s next project. Titled Laapata Ladies, the film will be Rao’s second directorial after the 2011 film Dhobi Ghat. Laapata Ladies is set in 2001 in rural India and follows the hilarious tale of two brides who get lost after a train journey. Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan essay prominent roles in the film.

Ajay Devgn cast in new supernatural thriller

Actor Ajay Devgn has been cast in a new supernatural thriller alongside R. Madhavan, Jyotika, and Gujarati actress Janki Bodiwala, who is making her Bollywood debut. The film will be helmed by Vikas Bahl, who is best known for helming acclaimed films such as Queen and Super 30. Devgn will reunite with Drishyam 2’s  National Award-winning music composer DSP for the upcoming untitled project.

Patrick Dempsey and Addison Rae star in  Eli Roth’s  new slasher ‘Thanksgiving’

Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has been cast in the lead as a Sheriff in Eli Roth’s new slasher titled Thanksgiving. Roth, who is renowned for his slasher horror films such as Hostel and Cabin Fever, will introduce a serial killer who wishes to make a twisted carving board out of his victims. The film will also star social media personality Addison Rae in a prominent role. Thanksgiving is set to release on November 17.

Lewis Pullman to star alongside Brie Larson in the Apple TV+ drama series Lessons in Chemistry

Top Gun: Maverick star Lewis Pullman has been cast in a new drama series for Apple TV+ titled, Lessons in Chemistry. Academy Award-winner Brie Larson, who is best known for her role as Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will play the lead role in the series. Larson slips into the character of Elizabeth Zott, who faces several obstacles in her quest to teach science and chemistry to other women. The series is based on Bonnie Garmus' novel, which was released last year. Lessons in Chemistry is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on October 13.

'The Royal Hotel' starring Jessica Henwick and Julia Garner releases first trailer

Emmy Award-winning actress of Ozark, Julia Garner, has been cast alongside Game of Thrones and The Gray Man actress Jessica Henwick in the Outback horror The Royal Hotel. The plot revolves around their characters, Liv and Hanna, who face severe hostility when they take up jobs as barmaids in a pub in the Australian Outback. The film is loosely based on Pete Gleeson's documentary Hotel Coolgardie, which focuses on two Finnish women who experienced hostility and aggression from the locals. The film is helmed by Kitty Green, and it premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on September 1. The Royal Hotel is expected to hit theatres on October 6.

Tommy Lee Jones and Jamie Foxx  to star in legal drama 'The Burial'

Academy Award-winners Tommy Lee Jones and Jamie Foxx play the lead roles in the upcoming legal drama The Burial. The film is based on a true story from the 1990s about two lawyers teaming up to save a family business that has endured corruption and institutionalised racism.  Maggie Betts helms the project, and it also stars Jurnee Smollett, Mamoudou Athie, and Bill Camp in prominent roles. The Burial will receive a limited theatrical release on October 6th, before releasing on Prime Video on October 13th.

Making way for international recognition

Interestingly, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is set to be screened at the Busan International Film Festival about two months after its theatrical release. The film has been selected for the Open Cinema section.

The film marks KJo's second outing with Jaya Bachchan and Alia Bhatt after Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Student of the Year, respectively. While the filmmaker has directed Ranveer for the first time, it also marks the actor's second film with Alia Bhatt after Gully Boy.

A day after Jawan's release, Google India on Friday joined in to celebrate Shah Rukh Khan's second film of the year. Google took a cue from Shah Rukh doing a few steps of Bees Saal Baad's song Bekarar Karke Hume in a Jawan scene. Taking to X (previously known as Twitter), Google wrote, "Bekarar karke humein, Yun na jaaiye, aapko humari kasam… Google par Jawan search kar aaiye (search Jawan on Google)."

Google further guided its followers on what the interactive session is. Google also said, "Step 1: Search for Jawan or SRK (Shah Rukh Khan), Step 2: Click on the walkie-talkie (sound on), Step 3: Keep tapping to unwrap a surprise, Step 4: Show us what your screen looks like…"

When a person types and searches Jawan or SRK on the Google search bar, a red walkie-talkie appears on screen and Shah Rukh's voice says 'ready'. As one keeps clicking on the walkie-talkie, bandage rolls appear on the screen covering it. Shah Rukh's voice is heard in intervals.

Reacting to the post, a fan wrote, "This is so cool. Thank you." A comment read, "Oh man this whole animation is so damn sexy." A person tweeted, "Wow this is so cool. Google what to say. Google is also Shah Rukh's fan now."

What Karan Johar, Kangana Ranaut said about Jawan

Celebrities have also reacted to the film. Taking to Instagram Stories, filmmaker Karan Johar on Thursday dropped a photo of Shah Rukh. In the picture, the actor was seen in a rugged look with intense expression. The caption read, “Emperor.”

Kangana Ranaut also praised Shah Rukh for his transformation into a "mass superhero" with Jawan. She posted a note on her Instagram Stories on Thursday evening and lauded Shah Rukh for hardwork and perseverance. She wrote, “From being the ultimate lover boy of the nineties to a decade-long struggle again to reinvent his connection with his audience to his late forties to mid-fifties and ultimately rising as the quintessential Indian mass super hero at the age of 60 (almost) Is nothing short of superheroic even in real life."

She also added, "I remember the time when people wrote him off and mocked his choices but his struggle is a master class for all artists enjoying long careers but must reinvent and reestablish. Jawan, helmed by Atlee, got off to an exuberant start as it released in theatres on Thursday. As per Sacnilk.com, Jawan became the biggest Hindi opener of all time. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role.

According to Sacnilk.com, Jawan earned ₹75 crore nett in India on its first day for all languages, as per early estimates. The film earned ₹65 crore nett in Hindi, ₹5 crore nett in Tamil and ₹5 crore nett in Telugu. As per the report, the film is the 'highest opening day Hindi nett of all time'.

About Jawan

Described by the makers as a high-octane thriller, Jawan outlines the story of a man set out to correct the wrongs of society. The film also touches upon issues like government apathy, corruption, farmers suicide, a healthcare system in shambles, faulty army weapons and dangerous factories set near residential areas. A Red Chillies Entertainment presentation, Jawan is produced by Gauri Khan and co-produced by Gaurav Verma.
