Tamil films Vikram and Ponniyin Selvan: I won big on day 2 of the South Indian International Movie Awards 2023 (SIIMA) in Dubai on Saturday. R Madhavan, who walked the red carpet at the event also took home the major awards for his film R Madhavan for Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. From the Malayalam cinema, Nna Thaan Case Kodu won the Best Film in the Malayalam category and Tovino Thomas took home the Best Actor award for his performance in the film Thallumaala. Jawan on OTT: Atlee hints at a 'different rhythm' for the Netflix version of Shah Rukh Khan's actioner

The theatrical runtime for Jawan is two hours and 49 minutes. However, many said that the film should have been longer as there were many aspects to explore, especially the song Chaleya, which was about the developing love story between the lead actors, Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara. Now, during a recent success interview, the director, Atlee, confirmed that he is planning something different for the OTT version of Jawan.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, when asked about his plans for the streaming release of the blockbuster film, the filmmaker stated, "I think we have given the theatre the right ratio of emotions at the right length. For OTT, we are considering a different rhythm. So, yeah, we are working on something. That's why I didn't go on my holiday. Let's see. Let me surprise you all."

Atlee's favourite character and spin-off possibilities

Meanwhile, when asked whether there was a character from his own work he'd like to see adapted into a spin-off, Atlee said that his hero is Vikram Rathore. Maybe he will make a sequel to that sometime. The filmmaker explained that he is a daddy's boy, and hence, he prefers to write strong father characters; it's in every one of his flicks.

At the end of Jawan, Azad and Vikram Rathore prepare for another operation, this time against the backdrop of the Swiss Bank, to combat corruption. When it comes to Jawan 2, Atlee spoke about it, stating that all of his films end on a cliffhanger, but he has never considered making a sequel to any of them. If he gets any good ideas for Jawan, he will build a sequel. The filmmaker left the door open, so he can write a sequel whenever he wants to. But someday he will write the sequel to Jawan.

Talking about the box office storm, Jawan has crossed the Rs. 735 crore mark at the global box office within 10 days of its release.

Deepika Padukone, who was last seen in a cameo appearance in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, has opened up about their relationship. In an interview with The Week, Deepika said that her relationship with Shah Rukh Khan goes beyond work, calling them 'each other's lucky charms'. She added that the 'trust and respect' between them allows them to be vulnerable with each other.

“We are each other's lucky charm. But honestly, we are beyond luck. We have a sense of ownership over each other... I am one of the few people he is vulnerable with. There is so much trust and respect, and I think that luck is just the cherry on the top," Deepika told The Week.

Earlier this year, Deepika was also seen with Shah Rukh Khan in Pathaan, and is now receiving praise for her cameo in Jawan too, which marks Deepika's fifth collaboration with Shah Rukh. Deepika had made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh in 2007's Om Shanti Om. They have also co-starred in Happy New Year and Chennai Express. All their films together have done well at the box office.

On box office success

While Pathaan had a dream run at the box office, grossing over ₹1000 crore worldwide, Jawan is close to breaching the ₹700 worldwide gross mark. The film was released on September 7.

Speaking about her films with Shah Rukh doing very well at the box office, the actor said in the same interview, “I’ve never been fascinated by numbers whether it was maths in school or the numbers of Pathaan. I was just happy that cinemas had come alive again, that people had come alive again. I was really grateful for that."

On her favourite co-star

Earlier this year, around Pathaan's release, in a video shared by the movie's production house, Yash Raj Films, Deepika had called Shah Rukh her 'most favourite co-star'.

She had said, “Shah Rukh and I have been very lucky to have had the opportunity to work in some incredible movies starting with Om Shanti Om. I'm collaborating with my most favourite co-star Shah Rukh. We have a beautiful relationship and I think the audience always see that in the movies that we do.”

Shah Rukh Khan responded to fans and colleagues on X in a late night session on the platform. He also responded to a video shared by Jawan music director Anirudh Ravichander who sang and played Chaleya on a keyboard. Anirudh has given music for Jawan and is being praised for the same.

And if I get the step wrong you instantly change the rhythm so I look good! You can do magic like that I know….love you.”

Chaleya has been picturised on Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara. It has been originally sung by Arijit Singh and Shilpa Rao with lyrics by Kumaar. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the song and Farah Khan has choreographed Shah Rukh and Nayanthara's performance. It also became the most streamed Hindi song in a day on Spotify.

Shah Rukh also responded to a tweet by Jawan cinematographer GK Vishnu who shared a behind-the-scene picture from the sets. The picture showed GK Vishnu and fellow crew members posing in front of a chopper seen in the hospital scene from the film.

We are living in the age of the celebrity beauty brands. Couple of months after actor Kriti Sanon launched her skincare brand Hyphen, Nayanthara took to Instagram to announce she was launching her own skincare company, called 9 Skin. On Thursday, sharing a series of pictures of herself from a photoshoot for the brand, the actor said the products, which will be out on September 29, will use 'clean ingredients' to give people 'healthier, glowing skin'. Soon after, many on Reddit reacted to Nayanthara's announcement.

While some asked why celebrities, who have have lent their faces (and hair and bodies) to countless ad campaigns for beauty brands, need to launch their own skincare brands now, others compared Nayanthara's brand with that of her Jawan co-star Deepika Padukone's skincare brand 82°E, which was launched last year, and was also promoted as an India-inspired ‘self care’ brand.

The actor, who made her social media debut recently, wrote on Instagram, “Today, we are extremely thrilled to reveal six years of relentless effort and love. We've poured our hearts into curating products that are as unique as you are, with formulas that are backed by nature and modern science with nano-technology and designed to elevate your self-care routine. Join us on this self love journey and say hello to healthier, glowing skin!”

She added, “We introduce @9SKINOfficial. The labour of self love you deserve is now brewing to be discovered. Because we believe self love is all we need. The 9SKIN journey begins on the 29th of September, 2023. Prepare for an amazing skincare experience!”

Reactions to her Nayanthara's announcement

"Great job by the marketing team to launch the brand at the right time," wrote a person on Reddit, referring to the box office success of Nayanthara's film Jawan. Ever since it was released last week, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has been performing extremely well in India and has also grossed over ₹650 crore worldwide in its opening week.

Another person wrote, "No offence to Nayanthara for launching her brand, but what is wrong with all these celebrities trying to enter the skincare market only. Khud toh botox lelete hai humari twachaa khraab krege huhhh (These celebs all use botox treatments, and want to spoil our skin with their skincare products)." Another one said, "These celebrities trying to enter the skincare market make you appreciate other celebrities, who're simply investing more or opening up businesses that involve things they're passionate about like hobbies, other career choices, dreams etc. Skincare stuff has become saturated now."

One more said, "Every actress is launching a skin care company every day. Isn't this the 3rd or 4th actress launching a skin care brand this year?" A person also wrote, “This (Nayanthara's skincare brand) won’t work cause it looks basic and it’s very similar to Deepika’s brand (which is also not doing well)... Katrina Kaif’s promotion for her beauty brand (Kay Beauty) were hands down the best and even her products are really good.” Katrina Kaif, co-founder of Kay Beauty, had launched the makeup brand in 2019.
