National Award-winning actress Alia Bhatt is awe-struck and moved by Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s recent directorial film, 12th Fail, which emerged as a sleeper hit, raking in more than Rs 60 crore out of a budget of Rs 20 crore. The movie was released theatrically in October and garnered critical acclaim for the performances and inspiring story based on the real-life IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and his lady love and wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi. The highly anticipated movie landed on the OTT platform of Disney+Hotstar on December 29 and is among the top-streamed films at the moment.

Taking to her Instagram story, the Gangubai Kathiawadi actress wrote, “One of the most beautiful films I’ve seen in a while! With such fabulous performances... Just too too too beautiful!!”

The actress was deeply moved by the splendid performances and described in detail what made the film "so beautiful" for her. She lauded the lead actors, Vikrant Massey and budding actress Medha Shankr. Here’s how she dropped the praise for the cinematic stars.

The seasoned producer of Munnabhai MBBS, PK, 3 Idiots, and several other Bollywood blockbusters – Vidhu Vinod Chopra serves as the director of 12th Fail. Alia Bhatt celebrated Chopra’s film as she conveyed how it touched her in different ways, making it the most lovable film.

12th Fail is a biographical drama film revolving around the challenges of poverty and social issues as he conquers them all to fulfil his big dreams of leading the country as a great civil servant. The film is currently streaming on Disney+Hotstar.

Sidharth Malhotra is celebrating his 39th birthday on Tuesday and his first after tying the knot with Kiara Advani. The actor rang in his birthday with a midnight celebration at his and Kiara's Mumbai home. Kiara has now wished Sidharth on social media by sharing glimpses of his cake-cutting ceremony at midnight.

Taking to instagram Stories, Kiara shared a video montage with ‘Happy birthday love’ written on it. It comprises of pictures of Sidharth and Kiara sharing a hug and a kiss during his birthday celebrations. While he is seen in a colourful T-shirt, she is seen in a black dress.

Sidharth is also seen cutting a special cake with a mini version of him in a tuxedo placed on a revolving platform. A film reel is also seen wrapped around the cake with posters of Sidharth's films printed on it.

Others pictures from Sidharth's birthday celebrations also showed filmmakers Karan Johar, Shakun Batra, casting director Shanoo Sharma, Kajal Anand and their other friends in attendance. One can also see glimpses of Sidharth and Kiara's Mumbai home in the pictures. The house is decorated in shades of white, beige and brown.

After falling in love on sets of the film Shershaah, Sidharth and Kiara got married in a royal Hindu wedding ceremony in Jaisalmer's Suryagarh Palace in February last year. They will soon be celebrating their first wedding anniversary.

Sidharth's projects

Sidharth will soon make his digital debut with the upcoming web series, Indian Police Force. Helmed by Rohit Shetty, the series also stars Vivek Oberoi and Shilpa Shetty in pivotal roles and will stream on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.

Sidharth also has Karan Johar's production, Yodha. The film will release in theatres on March 15. He plays the lead role in the action thriller directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha.

Triptii Dimri has become the talk of the town after her role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor. While her movie roles are to be credited for her popularity, her fans are also in love with the star's sartorial choices. Triptii is winning hearts during both her off-duty and work schedules. A paparazzi page shared a video of Triptii Dimri walking the ramp at the Ajio Luxe Weekend event with the caption, "#TriptiDimri graces the runway in stunning attire, captivating the audience at #AjioLuxeWeekend." Triptii turned showstopper for the retail brand. The actor slipped into a gorgeous lime green ensemble to walk the ramp at the fashion event. Her fans loved the sartorial moments and took to the comments to drop their compliments. One fan wrote, "Everyone's new crush." Another commented, "She is just too gorgeous." Meanwhile, her ensemble is a great fashion pick for your beach or date night wardrobe.

Triptii first walked the ramp while wearing a Rabbit ears mask, which covered her eyes and came illuminated with sprinkling embellishments and lights. Later, she removed it to end the show.

Meanwhile, her lime green dress features a one-shoulder neckline, ruffled detailing on the borders and the dress, intricately-placed cut-outs on the neck, under the bust and thighs, a thigh-high slit on the front exposing her legs, and a floor-sweeping train on the back.

Triptii styled the ensemble with minimal accessories, including a silver statement ring and strappy gladiator-style kitten heels. Lastly, she chose striking glam picks to elevate the ensemble, including kohl-lined eyes, black winged eyeliner, mascara on the lashes, darkened brows, smoky eye shadow, glossy berry-toned lip shade, rouge on the cheekbones, and highlighter on the contours for the glam picks.

5 reasons to watch prasanth varma and teja sajja’s superhero film hanuman

The latest edition to the superhero genre from India, Prasanth Varma’s HanuMan, starring Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Vinay Rai in the lead roles, hit screens this Friday for Sankranthi. The film has received rave reviews nationwide, with many praising the cast and crew for pulling off the film on a limited budget. Here are our five reasons for watching the film. 

Prasanth’s story

Prasanth has a knack for picking wacky stories and entertainingly narrating them. If you see his debut film Awe in 2018, it’s one of the few films in south Indian cinema that dealt with the topics of mental illness, sexuality and gender in a sensitive manner. He followed that up with the 2019 film Kalki which proved that he can also pull off a commercial potboiler with a twist. The 2021 film Zombie Reddy, which incidentally also starred Teja, was a fun film about a zombie outbreak in Kurnool. And now, HanuMan delves into how a man from a small village gains superpowers when he comes across a totem.

The performances

HanuMan boasts of a stellar cast, not just with its four leads but also in supporting roles. Teja Sajja, Amritha, Varalaxmi and Vinay pour life into their characters, making us root for their characters or at least, approach them with empathy. When Teja is granted a superhero status from that of an underdog, you want him to know his worth. The same goes for Varalaxmi’s character. Getup Srinu and Satya have roles in the film that bring in light-heartedness, and so does Ravi Teja voicing a monkey with his trademark charm. The cameos by Sunishith and Rakesh Master also stand out, despite their limited screen time.

The VFX work

HanuMan was made on a limited budget compared to some of the star vehicles released across the country recently. Prasanth Varma once spoke to the press and revealed that he would use Chat GPT and Midjourney to make his vision come to life. The film’s CGI scenes help the fictional village of Anjanadri come to life, apart from a few animals. For the most part, the visual grammar of the film looks like something most filmmakers would require bigger budgets for. Fans who loved the film have also pointed out that the VFX in the film is noteworthy.

The intriguing characters

No matter how well a world is built, everything falls flat if the characters aren’t engaging. But Prasanth ensures that most of his characters are fleshed out so that they evoke empathy, even love. Teja’s Hanumanthu is, of course, the hero of this tale, someone who doesn’t know his own strength, much like the God Hanuman whom he gets his superpowers from. But Varalaxmi’s Anjamma and Amritha’s Meenakshi are anything but damsel-in-distresses, standing up to bullies just fine on their own. Even Vinay’s Michael gets a backstory that helps you understand how the same power could be used for evil if it falls into the wrong hands.

The cinematic universe

Prasanth is setting up his cinematic universe - Prasant Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU) - with two films lined up after HanuMan. A sequel to the film, Jai Hanuman, is touted to be released in 2025. But before that, producer DVV Danayya’s son Kalyan Dasari will debut with Adhira, another superhero film which has already been announced. The first glimpse of the film shows how Hanumanthu wields a totem, the lead character in that film will gain powers akin to thunder and lightning.

Merry Christmas box office collection day 1: Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the film released in theatres on Friday. As per Sacnilk.com, the film has earned just over ₹2 crore. Merry Christmas stars Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif in lead roles.

According to the report, Merry Christmas earned ₹2.55 crore nett on its first day for all languages as per early estimates. The film has been shot in Hindi and Tamil. The Hindi version also features Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand. The Tamil version stars Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams in the same roles.

Merry Christmas review

The Mobile Masala  review of the film read, "Vijay delivers a standout performance, so flawless that you can't figure if he was actually playing the character or just being himself. After the villain in Jawan, seeing him in this mellowed avatar is quite refreshing. Katrina is class apart. Her expressions, body language and a restrained act never let her overpower the character. Though her emotional scenes looked a bit sketchy, but in rest of the portions, she manages to create the desired mystery around her character. I loved that Raghavan hasn't tried to make his characters look extra flamboyant or sensuous. There's a simplicity which you can sense - both in the character sketches and the narrative."

Atlee on Merry Christmas

Recently, director Atlee praised the performances of Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina. Taking to his X account, Atlee wrote, "#MerryChristmas! I've been waiting to write this one. My favourite narrative of recent times is a beautiful love story with an amazing thriller."

He added, "@VijaySethuOffl, you were pure class to watch, and the climax performance was woowwwwww. You're always an inspiration; keep inspiring us with such lovely films. The makers on Wednesday night hosted a grand premiere of their film in Mumbai. Several celebrities marked their presence at the star-studded premiere. Vicky Kaushal was also present to support his wife, Katrina. The couple walked hand-in-hand and posed in front of paparazzi stationed at the event.
