Director Mahi V Raghav’s Jiiva and Mammootty-starrer Yatra 2, the sequel to the 2019 film Yatra, released on Thursday. The film is a biopic on the life of the current Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, while the previous film was based on his father, ex-CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s life. If the reviews on X are anything to go by, the film is an engaging watch with a few drawbacks. Here are some of their reactions. 

‘Worth a watch with family’

One fan wrote that the film is worth a watch even if you’re not interested in politics or YS Jagan. They wrote on X, “Simply Superb! Relived YSJagan from 2009 to 2019. Worth watching with family even if you are not in to politics. Great execution @MahiVraghav garu! I promise no one will exit the theatre till last shot of end credits! #Yatra2Review #Yatra2 #SuperhitYatra2 #Yatra2JourneyBegins. (sic)”

They also revealed that the first half of the film was quite emotional. A fan also revealed that the song Marugainaava Raajanna was quite emotional, “Damnnnn Man!! I couldn't control my tears while "Marugainaava Raajanna" plays in YATRA 2. LEGENDARY STUFF! Goosebumps. (sic)”

‘Only for YSRCP fans’

A movie buff pointed out that while the film is good if you’re interested in AP politics, it might not work for the general public. They wrote, “#Yatra2, giving ratings is difficult but its a brilliant movie for ysrcp fans and headache for opposition party fans. @jeeva excelled in @ysjagan charecter. He looks and acts ditto as jagan. Dialogues are brilliant. Songs are extra. For ysrcp POV 3/5. For others POV 1/5. (sic)”

‘Cast and crew performed well’

One movie buff pointed out that the cast and crew of Yatra 2 performed well, writing, “#Yatra2 is fantastic. Every artist performed well. Every technician given their best output. Brilliant direction @MahiVraghav.” While another shared a video of a packed movie theatre, writing, “The hype is unreal #Yatra2 #YSJaganAgain. (sic)”

‘Feels a bit rushed’

Some fans thought that the film was a mixed bag, with a few scenes feeling rushed. “Yatra 2 - one of the finest biopics made in Telugu ( 3.75/5 ). Positives ~ Dialogues, Cinematography, Screenplay & elevations, Productions values, Jiiva & mamuka at their best. Negatives ~ Music & bgm, Few scenes feel a bit rushed. (sic)," one wrote.

‘Watch on OTT’

Some fans however thought the film felt like a complete fabrication and was worth a watch only digitally. One of them wrote, “#Yatra2. Negitive:- Jagan characterisation. Whole story is not real. Rajinikanth overwhelmed after watching daughter aishwarya's lal salaam trailer ahead of release

Aishwarya Rajinikanth is all set for the release of her film Lal Salaam. Ahead of the release, Rajinikanth, who also has a cameo in the film, sat down with a few of their close people to watch the film's trailer. His reaction video has surfaced online and is winning hearts as Rajinikanth seems impressed.

Lal Salaam stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth and is billed as a sports drama that promotes religious harmony. While Rajinikanth will be seen in the role of Moideen Bhai in the film, cricket legend Kapil Dev will also star in the film in a special cameo. Vignesh, Livingston, Senthil, Jeevitha, KS Ravikumar, Thambi Ramaiah, Nirosha, Vivek Prasanna and Dhanya Balakrishna are also a part of the film in pivotal roles.

It is directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth and officially marks her directorial comeback. The film is written by Vishnu Rangasamy. Backed by Subaskaran Allirajah of Lyca Productions, the film will release in theatres on February 9. AR Rahman has composed the music of Lal Salaam.

Talking about the film in which she directed her father, Rajinikanth, Aishwarya told, “Directing Appa (father) was something I never expected in my life to start with, it was a blessing. To put it shortly, every single day of working with him was a mini masterclass – how he handles himself on set and as a professional, an artist in the industry.”

“His dedication, devotion and seriousness about work, even at this age and time of his life, is something I think everyone in the industry should learn. I think everyone around him is constantly learning from him all the time. He still feels he has so much to learn, and that, I think, is the beauty of the situation we were in. Shahid Kapoor - ‘Industry needs to improve content in films’

Just hours before the theatrical release of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Shahid Kapoor said that the Indian film industry needs to improve the content of films. He said this during an interview with journalist Siddharth Kannan.

Siddharth Kannan asked Shahid, “I am sure that there is no lack of opportunities for you in the film industry. Right?” Siddharth asked this question keeping in view of Shahid’s recent 2023 successes namely Freddy and Bloody Daddy.

Shahid responded, “Opportunities - for actors, filmmakers, and film producers - comes from the content that is written. I do feel that we are going through a phase wherein we need to improve and increase the quantity of good content. We need fresh content.”

Shahid Kapoor later outlined how an increase in the number of OTT platforms has impacted the footfall at theatres in India. “People have so many options in today’s world. There are so many streams (or OTTs) today that it is challenging for filmmakers to compel people to come to the theatres. Notably, most of the people who come to the theatres also get so much by sitting at home with a subscription. So, from this point of view, people nowadays think twice before buying a ticket because they can get something for free or at a minimal cost at home. So, I think times today are much more challenging than they were pre-Covid. I think the (film) industry is going through its toughest phase.”

The trailer of the film which was released two weeks ago shows Shahid Kapoor and Kriti meeting and eventually falling in love at the beginning of the trailer. After that, things go ahead and he takes her to live with his joint family in North India. His family members include his grandpa Dharmendra, father Rakesh Bedi, and brother Rajesh Kumar. Everyone is captivated and impressed by Kriti's persona and her sophisticated abilities. However, the film then sees a big twist when Shahid's scientist maternal aunt (played by Dimple Kapadia) enters the picture. It appears that Kriti is a robot.

Shahid and Kriti appear to have a brilliant on-screen chemistry in the film, based on the trailer. However, the plot is revealed in the trailer a bit too much, so there isn't much room for the audience to be astonished when the movie opens on the big screens.

Hanuman emerges as sankranti's biggest blockbuster, prasanth varma grateful

Director Prasanth Varma's latest superhero movie, HanuMan, has emerged as a massive hit at the box office, exceeding the expectations of audiences and trade experts. Prasanth expressed his gratitude on Monday, confirming that the film has crossed Rs 300 crore globally within 25 days of its release.

HanuMan, this year's biggest success story

Despite not receiving as extensive a release as other Sankranti releases, including Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram and Naa Saami Ranga featuring Nagarjuna Akkineni, HanuMan gained momentum in the Telugu states due to terrific word of mouth, ultimately dominating the box office.

Guntur Kaaram faced poor reviews from critics and failed to resonate with audiences, contributing to increased ticket sales for HanuMan. Written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas, Guntur Kaaram initially took a significant opening worldwide. However, its collections witnessed a steep decline from the second day, while the demand for HanuMan soared. Additionally, HanuMan successfully attracted audiences in the Hindi-speaking states.

HanuMan global box office performance

Its performance was on par with Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan's latest film, Fighter, released on January 25, targeting the Republic Day holiday. The lacklustre opening response to Fighter seemingly contributed to the continued success of HanuMan among cinema patrons in the Hindi states. The film also broke several collection records in North America, which is traditionally considered a strong market for Telugu movies.

Starring Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Vinay Rai, HanuMan has become the biggest success story of this Sankranti holiday.

According to reports, HanuMan has become one of the highest-grossing films in the history of Telugu cinema. The film's commercial success is nothing short of phenomenal, considering it was made on a budget of less than Rs 30 crore.

Amid the tremendous success of HanuMan, Prasanth will begin working on the movie's sequel, titled Jai Hanuman. While the movie is yet to go on the floors, the producers have planned to release the sequel in 2025.
