5 times deepika padukone and ranveer singh talked about becoming parents

Deepika Padukone recently made news for presenting an award in a stunning saree at the BAFTA Awards. According to The Week, the actor is pregnant and in her second trimester. While the actor or Ranveer Singh’s teams are yet to confirm or deny this, here’s looking back at five times the actors spoke about parenthood. 

‘I hope for a happy family’

In 2013, in a round table with Rajeev Masand, Deepika was asked what she would be doing if not for acting. She replied, “If I was not an actor, I don’t know what I would’ve been doing. But hopefully with some children around. Three little kids scuttling about. Hopefully, be working enough to take them to shoots, have a happy family. And at the same time, still doing what I’m doing.”

‘It’s Deepika’s call’

Deepika and Ranveer met on the sets of Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela in 2013 and got married in Italy in 2018. Soon after their marriage, Ranveer attended the India Economic Conclave where he was asked about having children. He said, “It’s not my call really. Partly yes, it’s my call but mostly it’s just her and I allow her that. I allow her to make most of the decisions because she is better at everything. I have no qualms in admitting that she is a much more mature, much more evolved person than me.”

‘We’re focused on our careers’

In 2019 there were rumours that Deepika was pregnant and the actor spoke to Hindustan Times about how ‘sad’ it is that society puts such pressure on people. “I think it’s sad that society kind of puts itself and people in this rut that okay you are dating for so long toh shaadi kab hogi, shaadi ke baad bacche (when will you marry, after marriage it’s kids) and then grandchildren. I’m not surprised (by the rumours), we’re not surprised by it at all,” she said, adding, “Do we intent on having children? Of course we do, we both love kids. But do we intend to have children anytime soon? Absolutely not! We’re too selfishly focused on our careers, and I don’t think having kids at this point would be fair. We’re not even thinking about kids.”

‘I’ll have kids in 2-3 years’

Two years after Deepika’s statement though it looked like the couple was ready for kids because Ranveer shared his excitement in 2021 on his TV show The Big Picture. He said, “Jaisa ki aap log jante hai meri shaadi ho gai hai aur ab 2-3 saal me bacche bhi honge. Bhaisaab, aapki bhabhi itni cute baby thi na. Mai to roz uski baby photos dekhta hoon, kehta hoon ek aisi de de mujhe bus meri life set ho jae (As you guys know I am married and may have kids in next two or three years. Bro, your sister-in-law (Deepika) was such a cute baby. I see her baby photos every day and tell her, give me one baby like this one, my life will be set).”

‘We look forward to it’

Deepika spoke to Vogue Singapore in January this year about how it’s easy to get carried away with the fame and money in the film industry. “In this industry, it’s easy to get carried away by fame and money. But no one treats me like a celebrity at home. I am a daughter and a sister first. I don’t want that to change. My family keeps me grounded and Ranveer and I hope to inculcate the same values in our children.” When asked if this means they’ll be parents soon, she added, “Absolutely. Ranveer and I love children. We look forward to the day we will start our own family.”

Speaking about the film, Kareena had told Film Companion that it was Shahid who convinced her to do Tashan as the girl’s part was very interesting. Kareena had said in the same interview, “In fact, it was Shahid who actually said that I should hear this script of this film. He was like, ‘It’s amazing, the girl’s part is amazing and you should do it.’ He kind of actually got this entire project together and both of us ended up doing this film.”

The two have been at the helm of rumors for a while as several leaked glimpses of Anushka Sharma trying to cover up her baby bump have been going viral on the internet. Rumors also had that they were going to welcome the child in London. The two have not yet announced where they are. However, the first confirmation about the news came from AB De Villiers who accidentally revealed that they are welcoming a baby soon.

Actor couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are reportedly expecting their first child. According to a source of The Week, Deepika is in her second trimester. As per the report, there were speculations that Deepika may be pregnant as she reportedly hid her midriff at the 77th BAFTA red carpet. Deepika wore a shimmery saree and custom jewellery by Sabyasachi Mukherjee for the event.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika tied the knot on November 14, 2018, at Italy's Lake Como after dating for six years. Bollywood heartthrob Janhvi Kapoor, whose Telugu debut film Devara has been on the release wait-list for a long time, has now signed another huge Telugu project opposite none other than Ram Charan. The actress’ father and producer Boney Kapoor spilled the beans about his daughter’s ambitious south projects, recently during an interview. Boney Kapoor revealed that Janhvi Kapoor, who has already finished her part for Jr NTR-starrer Devara, will begin shooting for Ram Charan’s next film. 

 “My daughter has already shot for a film with Jr NTR. She’s enjoying every bit of the day she spends on sets here. Soon, she will start a film with Ram Charan too,” Boney Kapoor revealed.  

“She has been watching a lot of Telugu films, and she feels blessed to work with them. Hopefully, the films will go well, and she hopes to do more work," he added. Referring to Janhvi's project with Suriya in his Hindi film debut Karna, Boney confirmed the speculations that the Bawaal actress will be sharing screen space with Suriya.

Interestingly, the film will be released in two parts and the same was announced by the makers last year. As the film is being made on a massive scale and will have extensive VFX work, the post-production is getting delayed time and again. Jackky Bhagnani and Rakul Preet Singh are all set to tie the knot on February 21 in Goa. They recently held their first pre-wedding function in Mumbai. Now, the first pictures from their wedding celebrations have emerged online, where the signboard from the venue was revealed.

The new pictures from Jackky and Rakul's wedding venue reveal the official signboard that is decorated with flowers. It reads, ‘Bhagnani and Singh family welcome you.’ Another picture had a coconut which had the first letter of both their names ‘RP’ imprinted on it. It seems to be one of the drinks that will be served to the guests.

About the wedding

Jackky and Rakul left for Goa on Saturday evening. They had earlier reached Siddhivinayak temple to seek blessings for their big day. On Monday, Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal, Esha Deol, Bhumi Pednekar were also spotted arriving at Goa for the wedding. The grand wedding will take place in the presence of family and close friends on February 21. As per reports, their eco-friendly wedding will include digital invites, and no use of fireworks.

On the work front, Jackky is awaiting release of his next production, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film stars Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Sonakshi Sinha, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. It is all set to hit theatres on Eid 2024. The title track of the film was released today.

Meanwhile, Rakul will be seen next in Indian 2 alongside Kamal Haasan. The film also stars Bobby Sinha and Priya Bhavani Shankar in key roles.
