Among the many unexpected things 2024 brings, here comes another delightful collab. Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat, who were the IT couple in 2000s (their film Murder released in 2004 and the steamy scenes have been a big hit since), have reunited and it is the best thing on the internet today. Emraan and Mallika shared a cordial bond when papped at an event. They posed together and their chemistry is sure to make every Murder fan (or Emraan, or Mallika fan, which is basically everyone) nostalgic.

The reunion

Emraan was posing for the paps, when he noticed Mallika Sherawat at a wedding reception being held in Mumbai. The actor, last seen in Tiger 3 opposite Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, went and greeted his Murder co-star with a warm hug. Expressing delight, Mallika hugged him back and the two caught up on life. This time, instead of posing alone, Emraan asked Mallika to join him. He paved the way for her and joined Mallika for the photos and videos that followed. Both the actors flashed a wide smile for the cameras and they were an absolute delight at the event. Some time after, Emraan asked the paps to click Mallika’s solo photos.

When Murder released in 2004, Emraan and Mallika’s chemistry was the most-spoken-of. Their songs from the film, especially Bheege Honth, are still among the most loved among the Hindi-speaking public.

Unfortunately, they worked in only one movie and then went their different ways in movie career. Emraan continued working in movies which had steamy scenes but eventually (although slowly) moved out of that zone. Meanwhile, Mallika (real name Reema Lamba) left Bollywood altogether for a career in the US. Her last appearance was at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, where she locked herself in a cage for 12 hours to send a message on behalf of Free A Girl India NGO.

The wedding of producer Anand Pandit's wedding was a star-studded affair. A host of Bollywood celebrities, from Shah Rukh Khan to Taapsee Pannu, attended the reception held in Mumbai. 

Taapsee's first post-wedding appearance

After tying the knot with longtime boyfriend and badminton player Mathias Boe in hush-hush fashion last month, Taapsee made her first post-wedding appearance. She wore a red sari and covered her chooras (red bangles) with a red cloth. Wearing gold danglers and with her hair tied in a bun, Taapsee grinned for the paparazzi. As the photographers congratulated her, she kept saying, “Thank you,” before telling them, “Abhi kisi aur ki shadi mein aayi hu (I've come for someone else's wedding now).” When the paparazzi asked her, “Sir nahi aaye? (didn't her husband come with her),” she replied, “Marwaoge tum log mujhe?” (You guys are going to get me in trouble).

Twenty years after starred together in Anurag Basu's blockbuster romance Murder, Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat were seen posing together at the wedding. While Emraan wore a white shirt and black suit, Mallika sported a pink gown. They were also seen catching up with each other inside the wedding.

Other celebrities who graced the wedding included Shah Rukh, Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, Ameesha Patel, Rajkummar Rao, Patralekha, Rakesh Roshan, Manoj Bajpayee, Pratik Gandhi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Adah Sharma, Avika Gor, Tanisha Mukherjee, and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Shah Rukh looked dapper in a black sherwani as he posed with the father of the bride. Earlier in the day, he was seen waving at scores of fans from the balcony of his bungalow Mannat. He wore a white kurta on the occasion of Eid.

Anand Pandit also wore an all-black suit and posed with his entire family, including daughter Aishwarya and son-in-law Sahil. He's best known for producing films like Total Dhamaal (2019) and PM Narendra Modi (2019) among others. He's also a distributor under his company Anand Pandit Motion Pictures.

Diljit is always such a delight to watch. Imtiaz, AR Rahman and Diljit are quite a combo.”

Ishwak Singh shared, "I know it's going to be something very special. I'm a huge huge Imtiaz Ali fan and love the actors. It's one of those special films. After a long time, I'm really excited. As quoted by Indian Express, he said, “It has to be on everyone’s must-watch list. It’s a very special film. It’s very inspiring, moving and rooted. And, it’s got Imtiaz Ali’s spunk and wildness. It’s quite vibrant and gives you a taste of Punjab. To sum it up, it gives you a spiritual experience.”

Rajat Barmecha said, "There is nothing nothing at all that you don't like in the film. The reason I'd like to recommend the film is because I think Chamkila is a story and as a person is a person which a lot of people and in the world we live in today need to understand where he comes from and what he did.”

Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn along with Maidaan filmmaker Amit Sharma were among the first few celebrities who arrived at the event being held in the city. Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Boney Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, and Janhvi Kapoor followed up later thereby adding charm to the screening event.

Last night, paid previews of the film took place. Film critics have heaped praises on the film and its creators. And today, notable Bollywood celebrities graced the film’s screening event and heaped praises.

Besides the celebrities mentioned above, Gajraj Rao, who played a supporting role in Maidaan, too, made a dashing entry along with actress Neena Gupta at the event. Gajraj and Neena worked together in the 2022 film Badhaai Ho which was directed by Amit Sharma.

Priyamani, the famous South Indian actress, too graced the event. She played a supporting role in Maidaan. Previously, she featured in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan.

Bigg Boss Season 17 second runner-up Mannara Chopra was also present at the event. She aced her look by wearing designer wear. Her top was white, while her skirt in faded blue colour.

Pooja Hegde, who was seen in Salman Khan starrer Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, too, graced the occasion.

When will Maidaan be released?

On April 8, the makers of Maidaan confirmed that this sports drama would be released theatrically on April 11, coinciding with the occasion of Eid-Al-Fitr. Earlier, it was expected to be out on April 10 but due to reasons best known to the film’s producers, the release date of the movie was pushed forward by a day.

Maidaan is an upcoming biographical sports drama film that features Ajay Devgn, Priyamani, and Gajraj Rao in leading roles. It revolves around the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, a trailblazing football coach in India from 1952 to 1962.
