Shabana azmi, anupam kher, shekhar suman, son adhyayan react to kangana ranaut slap incident: ‘mujhe bara afsos hua’

Several Bollywood celebrities, including actors Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi, Shekhar Suman, and his son Adhyayan Suman, have reacted to Kangana Ranaut's slap incident. As per news agency PTI, actor and BJP MP Kangana said she was hit in the face and abused by a female CISF constable during the security check at the Chandigarh airport on Thursday. 

What Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher said

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Shabana Azmi tweeted, "I have no love lost for Kangana Ranaut. But I can't find myself joining this chorus of celebrating 'the slap'. If security personnel start taking law into their hands, none of us can be safe."

Speaking to the paparazzi at the sideline of an event, Anupam Kher said, "Mujhe bara afsos hua. Ek mahila k saath ek mahila k dwaara jo apne position ka fayeda uthakar is tarah ki harqat ki, bilkul ghalat hai. Iski kanooni karwaayi honi chahiye. Unka koi bhi rosh hai, main yeh nahi keh raha hoon k inka rosh nhi ho sakta jisne aesa kiya, but yeh apne audhe ka ya position ka fayeda uthakar nahi karna chahiye (I deeply regret it. The way a woman slapped anoth woman by taking powr of her position it's wrong. This should be legally investigated. She can have grievances, but it shouldn't be done by taking advantage of their power)."

"Bohut hi democratic ways hai (There are democratic ways) of saying that what you have said in the past which has affected. But to do something like this is very sad and unfortunate. Not only because now Kangana in an MP or actress, Kangana is a woman. I think any kind of violence towards anybody, forget about women, isn't right. Kal ho koi bhi kisi ko bhi kisi bhi baat pe is tarah ki harkat kar sakta hai aur bahana bana sakta hai. Ghalat baat hai (Tomorrow anyone can do this to anyone on any matter and later make excuses. This is wrong)," he added.

How Shekhar Suman and his son Adhyayan reacted

Shekhar Suman and his son Adhyayan Suman were also present at the event. They also interacted with the paparazzi. When asked about his reaction to the incident, Shekhar said, "Woh ghalat hai, woh toh bohut ghalat hai. Bohut hi durbhagyepurn hai. Aesa kisi k saath nahi hona chahiye (It was very wrong. It was unfortunate. This shouldn't happen with anyone). No one has the right to do this. This is illegal what she has done. She should get punished for this. I understand that she might have some anger or protest in her mind but the way it was expressed was very wrong. It could also have been said in a decent manner...You can't raise your hand on anyone like this." Adhyayan Suman was seen standing next to him and nodding his head.

What happened with Kangana

The incident took place two days after Kangana was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. The constable, who appeared to be upset with Kangana over her stance on the farmer protests, has been suspended and an FIR lodged against her, officials said. The Central Industrial Security Force, tasked with providing security at airports, has also ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.

Kangana shared three pictures on her Instagram stories. She wore a purple-pink saree with a purple blouse and black sunglasses, with her hair tied in a bun. She captioned the first picture as "Delhi calling." In he second photo she can be seen hugging mother Asha as the latter smiled. In the third shot she took a selfie and wrote, “On my way to the parliament…Mandi Ki Sansad (The Member of Parliament from Mandi).”

Kangana Ranaut's entry in active politics

Kangana defeated her rival, Congress' Vikramaditya Singh by 74,755 votes in Mandi. She secured 537,002 votes against 462,267 votes polled to Vikramaditya. The 2024 Lok Sabha Polls marked Kangana's first election as a politician. She was declared the BJP candidate from Mandi in March 2024. After her electoral win, the MP thanked the voters on Instagram and captioned her post as, “Heartfelt gratitude to all the people of Mandi for this love and trust... This victory belongs to all of you, this is the victory of your trust in Prime Minister Modi and BJP, this is the victory of Sanatan and in the honour of Mandi.”

Kangana Ranaut's upcoming project

Kangana will be next seen in her directorial debut, Emergency, backed by her home banner Manikarnika Films. She is playing the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. The film is set against the backdrop of the Emergency imposed by the then Congress government from 1975 to 1977. Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and the late actor Satish Kaushik play crucial roles in the movie.

A source disclosed to the tabloid that Shiv has scheduled multiple battle scenes for the opening leg. Following her opening sequence, Alia will proceed to yet another action-packed set-piece in which she and Sharvari will team up. According to a source, Aditya will ensure a small crew and close monitoring during the Mumbai shoot to avoid any information being disclosed.

Covert assignment in the UK

The two actors will then go to the UK as part of their covert assignment. During this term, their mentor, Anil Kapoor, will join the group.

Although Alia recently experimented with the genre with Heart of Stone (2023), this is the actor's debut action film in Bollywood. Naturally, the actor is ready, having spent the last two months training at the Andheri studio under the guidance of renowned action choreographers Craig Macrae and Se-yeong Oh.

Hand-to-hand combat training

The source claims that Craig and Se-yeong, two of the seven stunt directors involved, came from London and Seoul, respectively. In the first scene, Alia will battle a slew of villains. She is currently practicing hand-to-hand combat techniques with a group of 40 people in order to master the manoeuvre.

Bobby Deol, who will portray the film's main antagonist, has also started his training.

In the video, Sparsh and Pratibha are seen walking the corridor of Netflix office with a sunflower each in their hands. They go on to recreate the ‘gajagamini’ walk made viral by Aditi Rao Hydari's character Bibbojaan in the song ‘Saiyaan Hatto Jao’ from Heeramandi.

The video caught the attention of Aditi herself, who then commented, “Bibbojaan certified! Nailed it guys (red heart and smiley face emoticons).”

A fan wrote, “The collab of shows we didn’t know we needed! (laughing face emoticon).” A second fan wrote, “Sparsh did it better!” A comment also read, “This made my day!”

In an interview with Zoom TV last month, Aditi had revealed how the entire shot was conceptualized by Sanjay Leela Bhansali to the smallest of details. “He said that he wanted that dupatta to fall on a particular beat, the head to turn and the ‘chann‘ (sound of the ghungroo) to come exactly on the beat, so it was all his thought and his creation," she said.

Aditi plays the character of courtesan Bibbojaan in Heeramandi, who is the elder daughter of Mallikajaan portrayed by Manisha Koirala. The Netflix show has already been renewed for a second season.

Meanwhile, Laapataa Ladies was released on Netflix on April 26. Apart from Sparsh and Pratibha, the film also stars Nitanshi Goel and revolves around a case of two brides who accidentally get swapped during a train journey. It is directed by Kiran Rao.

Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Mr and Mrs Mahi, which also features actor Rajkummar Rao, is going steady at the box office. And the actor has given a shout out to her fans, saying their love and support push her to work harder. 

The film, which released on May 31, has amassed ₹21.10 crore in its first five days. Janhvi has penned a thank you note to her fans.

Reacting to the response to the film, Janhvi said in a statement, “Your love has motivated me to keep going and keep working even harder and pushing myself in my craft".

“Your love is worth everything! Mr and Mrs Mahi is a piece of my heart and for all those who understood and connected with what we were trying to say, thank you,” she added.

About the film

Directed by Sharan Sharma, the film features Janhvi as Mahima, a doctor, who becomes a cricketer after her husband Mahendra, essayed by Rajkummar, spots cricketing talent in her and encourages her to chase her dream. He also becomes her coach. For the film, Janhvi underwent two years of rigorous training and overcame several injuries such as shoulder dislocation.

The film's title is a tribute to the fans of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, who is lovingly called Mahi by his fans and teammates.

It also features Rajesh Sharma, Kumud Mishra, Zarina Wahab among others. The film marks the second collaboration between Janhvi and Sharan. Janhvi and Rajkummar were earlier seen in horror comedy Roohi.

The film was released on May 31. It earned ₹6.75 crore on day one of its release, ₹4.6 crore on day two, ₹5.5 crore on day three and ₹2.15 crore on day four, as per Sacnilk.com. On day five, the film earned ₹2.10 crore nett in India as per early estimates. So far Mr and Mrs Mahi has earned ₹21.10 crore. The film had an overall 10.60% Hindi occupancy on Tuesday.

Janhvi’s next project

On the work front, Janhvi will be seen in the mythological epic Karna, and Devara opposite Junior NTR. She also has projects such as Ulajh, RC16 with Ram Charan, and Karan Johar’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari opposite Varun Dhawan in her kitty.
