Nayanthara Beyond the Fairy Tale - Mobile masala

 Review of

Review of "Nayanthara Beyond the Fairy Tale": A Carefully Crafted Yet Unfulfilling Journey

Nayanthara, affectionately known as Nayan, shares her life's journey and acting career in the documentary "Nayanthara Beyond the Fairy Tale," now streaming on Netflix India. She hopes to inspire hope and happiness through her story. After a long wait, fans can finally delve into the life of the 'Lady Superstar.'

From Humble Beginnings to Stardom

Nayanthara's journey from Thiruvalla, a small town in Kerala, to becoming a leading figure in South Indian cinema is nothing short of a fairytale. Despite facing challenges, such as body shaming during the release of AR Murugadoss’s "Ghajini" in 2005, she persevered. Producer Pushpa Kandasamy aptly notes how the industry seeks to exploit vulnerabilities, yet Nayanthara's resilience and determination led her to stardom. The documentary features insights from celebrities like Nagarjuna, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, and others who attest to her strength.

Navigating Love and Challenges

The documentary, directed by Amith Krishnan, lightly touches upon her personal relationships and the two-year hiatus (2011-13) before her triumphant return. Nayanthara candidly discusses the scrutiny she faced, stating, “More than love, it was about trust.” Despite her personal setbacks, she emerged stronger, highlighting her decision to leave the industry in 2011 due to personal reasons.

The documentary also explores her relationship with director Vignesh Shivan, which began in 2015. The narrative includes perspectives from Vignesh Shivan, Vijay Sethupathi, director Atlee, and others, painting a picture of love and partnership. The story culminates in their marriage and family life, portraying a 'happily ever after' ending.

However, the documentary feels like a glossy film that skirts the complexities of Nayanthara’s journey. It hints at challenges but doesn’t delve deeply into them, leaving viewers wanting more. As Vignesh Shivan says to Nayanthara, “There’s always a challenge that’s testing us.” While the documentary showcases her triumphs, it misses the intricacies that shaped her path.

For a tale meant to inspire, "Nayanthara Beyond the Fairy Tale" leaves an incomplete impression. It celebrates a female actor’s resilience and success, but its superficial treatment of her journey and relationships is a letdown. Yet, it remains a testament to her strength and ability to carve her own path.

"Nayanthara Beyond the Fairy Tale" is available now on Netflix India.

Allu Arjun was the most recent guest on Balakrishna’s talk show, Unstoppable With NBK, on Aha. The actor spoke about his fondness for Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, comparing his son Ayaan to his character in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal.

Allu Arjun on Ranbir Kapoor

In a segment, Balakrishna showed Arjun a picture of Ranbir and asked him what he thought of the actor. He replied, “He is one of the finest actors in Bollywood in this generation. He’s just wow. He’s also my personal favourite. I like him a lot, he’s very good.”

Balakrishna then said he hopes Ranbir and Arjun will do a multi-starrer someday, to which Arjun replied, “It’ll be fabulous.” The host then jokingly gave an ultimatum that if no one offered them a film together, he would write a story and maybe even direct it, if need be. Arjun joked that his father, Allu Aravind, will produce it.

On Ayaan being like Ranbir in Animal

Later in the show, Arjun was asked about the women he dated before marriage, to which he replied, “My kids will also watch this show. I told my son I only loved his mom and married her.” He explained further, “He’s like Ranbir Kapoor in Animal. He will do anything for his dad but won’t spare me if something goes wrong for his mom.”

Arjun also admitted that he told his wife Sneha Reddy ‘everything’ before marrying her. “I never hid anything from her. I feel like marriage is a reset button from everything that happened in the past, so she knows everything,” he joked, refusing to take the names of people he once dated.

Upcoming work

Arjun will soon star in Sukumar’s Pushpa 2: The Rule. The film will be released in theatres on December 5. Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil are his co-stars in the sequel to his 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise. Sreeleela was recently roped in for a special number.

The Sabarmati Report review - Mobile masala

The Sabarmati Report review: Vikrant Massey delivers earnest performance in a hard-hitting tale

The Sabarmati Report review: Vikrant Massey delivers earnest performance in a hard-hitting tale

The Sabarmati Report Story

Director Dheeraj Sarna's film The Sabarmati Report is based on the real-life incident of the burning of the Sabarmati Express train on February 27, 2002. The story follows the life of a journalist Samar Kumar who gets an opportunity to cover the burning of the Sabarmati Express train in Godhra from ground zero. This tale, starring Vikrant Massey, presents how media, power, and politics had a huge role to play in the way this incident was perceived. To know more, continue to read on...

The Sabarmati Report Review

The Sabarmati Report introduces Vikrant Massey as journalist Samar Kumar, who faces allegations by a news channel he once worked for. As he stands in the court (in 2007), Samar Kumar intends to tell the truth about the burning of the Sabarmati Express train in Godhra. Soon, we are transported back to 2002 where Samar goes from being a film journalist to working under Manika Rajpurohit to cover the Sabarmati Express from ground zero.

Upon reaching the actual site, Samar and Manika both realize that it was not an accident but an 'attack'. Once Samar sets the camera rolling for Manika to report the incident for their news channel, he's shocked to see his boss change her stance and present a different narrative. One phone call that Manika gets, changes the way the Sabarmati Express incident, which claimed 59 lives, is presented to the entire nation. This is followed by a series of eye-opening events. But what are those events? For that, you need to watch this hard-hitting tale on the big screen.

The Sabarmati Report deals with a sensitive subject. The movie begins on a hard-hitting note, loses hold in between, but picks up well with the star cast's engaging performances. The movie does come with some setbacks.

The initial half of Vikrant Massey's film comes with its set of high and low moments. On one hand, the story sticks to its core issue which is about the incident. But it deviates from the plot when Vikrant's character Samar goes through his low phase. Although it has a connection to the main incident, Samar's emotional turmoil when he becomes an alcoholic seems stretched. As the film continues to blend real-life footage and fictional ones, some scenes seem a bit disjointed.

That said, the film soon gains momentum once Raashii Khanna as journalist Armita Gill takes charge the way Samar did initially. The actress has played her part well. As for Vikrant, the actor shines with his earnest performance. But there's something amiss. Talking about Ridhi Dogra, the actress has done justice to her character of being a feisty journalist Manika. Had it not been for their performances, The Sabarmati Report wouldn't have been engrossing. Another thing that works in The Sabarmati Report is its runtime (2 hours 7 minutes).

The Sabarmati Report Final Verdict

The Sabarmati Report has its intent clear and doesn't beat around the bush. The Vikrant Massey-starrer is presented from a fresh perspective and can be an eye-opening story for many.
