It is now a new normal for several big banner movies to premiere directly on OTT streaming platforms without the fear of impact on numbers or ranking. One of those films is Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Bawaal, which had a promising debut on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s how the film made records and set new highs for the industry.
Bawaal shines on OTT
Director Nitesh Tiwari’s romantic drama film, Bawaal is soaring high on the digital streaming platform of Amazon Prime Video as it was named the highest streamed film of 2023 by a media consulting firm (Ormax Media) with approximately 21.2 million views. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, the film stars B-town fresh casting Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor as a troubled married couple. Previously, it was slated for a theatrical release but instead ended up premiering on OTT in July 2023. The male protagonist Varun Dhawan is brimming with pride after his movie broke records with more than 20 million streams in nearly 6 months.
Taking to his Instagram account, the Badlapur actor thanked the audience for making Bawaal the No. 1 film as it garnered favorable streaming views.
“Mahaul ko Bawaal banane ke liye Thank you! ️It really feels great to know that we are the no 1 watched film on OTT in India across all platforms,” Dhawan wrote on social media.
